Trondheim Symphony Orchestra & Opera (TSO), with chief conductor Adam Hickox, invites highly qualified candidates to apply for the position as tutti viola.

Audition

The Audition takes place in Olavshallen, Trondheim on Monday, August 18, 2025.

The due date for applications is Friday, July 18, 2025.

Audition by invitation only.

TSO does not cover accommodation or travel expenses.

Audition repertoire

Audition repertoire:

  • Stamitz or Hoffmeister viola concert: 1st movement with cadenza or Schubert Arpeggione, 1st movement

AND

  • First movement from one of the following concertos: Bartok, Walton or Hindemith (Der Schwanendreher)
  • Orchestra excerpts
  • Chamber music

About us

Trondheim Symphony Orchestra & Opera (TSO), established in 1909, is one of Norway's leading cultural institutions, based in Olavshallen, Trondheim. The orchestra is comprised of eighty-five permanently employed musicians. Included in this number are ten string players in combined positions playing in both the TSO and the Trondheim Soloists. Trondheim Vokalensemble (TVE) is also affiliated with TSO's activities, primarily in opera and choral works. In addition, Trondheim Symphonic Opera Choir (TSO-koret) is a natural part of our opera productions. TSO offers a rich repertoire spanning from Baroque to contemporary music and opera. Through concerts, educational outreach, and community engagement, TSO aims to deliver powerful musical experiences for all. From the autumn 2025, TSO will be led by Adam Hickox as its new Chief Conductor, ushering in an exciting new chapter.
